The Project
More detailed information on all of the following aspects of our project can be found in our PROJECT REPORT.
Project Background
Dhuskun is a village in Nepal, located about 60 km northeast of the capital Kathmandu at the foot of the Himalayas. The need for an improved water supply is mainly due to the seasonal fluctuation of water availability, as well as the partly long distances between homes and water points.
Technical concept
In the technical implementation, we pay particular attention to a simple, durable concept, as well as to the availability of materials on site and the wishes of the residents.
An overview of the system and information about the individual components can be found in our project report (link above).
Sustainability
The long-term success of the project is very important to us. To this end, it must be possible for the villagers to operate, maintain and, if necessary, repair the water system independently once construction is complete. To meet this requirement, we take this aspect into account in every decision and take appropriate measures in all areas and phases of the project.
Implementation
The project was divided into several phases. These are to be understood both as temporal stages and to be assigned to specific components of the system. In general, we rely on building “top down” – this means starting at the source which is located above the village and gradually extending the system into the village until the structure for distribution is finally created there. This way, between the construction phases and in case of any delays, the already completed components can be used.
