Technical Details
Our proposed system is designed to provide clean water to the Island of Hope campus. A schematic of how the system will work is shown here:
From the well, water is pumped to the water treatment plant, which is located in the water house (building no. 14 on the Island of Hope map).
The well was newly constructed because it is uncertain how the level of Lake Victoria will develop in the future (read more here).
The water is first cleaned of particles using coarse and sand filters before being disinfected using UV.
Since there are several water tanks in different locations on the site and there is no direct consumption of the water, a small amount of chlorine is added before it is distributed. This maintains the water quality in the tanks and keeps the water clean until it is distributed to the different locations(taps, clinic, sanitary facilities, kitchen, etc.).
