The Region Iyolwa
Iyolwa, about 200 km east of the capital Kampala, is part of the district Tororo. The Kenyan border is just a few kilometres away. Approximately 34,600 people live in this region, which is dominated by agriculture.
The area is lacking public water supply. So people are forced to use either rainwater or water from public wells or waterholes. Most schools have inadequate sanitation and water supply leading to a higher risk of illness.
There are just a few primary schools but no secondary school in Iyolwa. Out of 10,500 potential school children only about 50% can actually attend school and they have little chance for any further education.
