Fourth Construction Phase

The Fourth Construction Phase

January – March 2017

Almost three months after Hurricane Matthew, another motivated team flew to Haiti in January 2017. To be there on New Year’s, a three-man team headed out to Paris on New Year’s Eve to fly from there to Port-au-Prince.

As the container had finally reached Beaumont in October 2016, nothing stood in the way of installing the photovoltaic system. Our team mounted aluminum rails, laid many meters of cable and fastened the 28 modules on the roof of the assembly hall.

In addition, there was a water filter in the container, which was placed in the assembly hall and now supplies the children and staff with clean drinking water, until 2020 , when our large drinking water treatment plant will most likely be implemented.

To ensure the safety of the children, we want to enclose the entire area with a fence. Since the outline of the property is about 700 to 800 meters long, 600 meters of wire mesh and a few other accessories were brought to our construction site in the container too. Part of the property line had already been fitted with a natural stone wall by Haitian craftsmen. For the attachment of the fence post, foundations were concreted, so that our second team, which reached the construction site in February, could seamlessly follow up on the thorough preparatory work.

The pre-school building constructed of a reinforced concrete skeleton with timber infill, whose foundation and columns were built in the last construction phase, was completed. In addition, a third pre-school building was built, which is made out of a wood construction.
